Who Are These Lessons For?

➡️ Older adults looking to learn something new.

➡️ Students preparing for classical guitar exams.

🎼 My Approach

I believe that learning music should feel inspiring, personal, and never overwhelming.

My teaching is based on a strong classical foundation, combined with a flexible and creative approach that adapts to each student. Whether you are a complete beginner or returning to music, lessons are designed to help you feel comfortable and confident from the very beginning.

I work with a variety of musical styles—including classical, folk, pop, and fingerstyle—and always adapt the repertoire to your musical interests and goals.

I focus on building solid technique while keeping the process musical and enjoyable. You won’t just practice exercises—you will learn how to play real music, express yourself, and develop your own connection with your instrument.

For students who prefer a more structured path, I have developed my own classical guitar syllabus as part of an online music examination system. Through this program, students can prepare for and take their exams in a flexible and supportive environment.

This approach offers a clear progression while providing a less stressful alternative to traditional in-person examinations. More information about this at the bottom of this page.

🎸Reviews

Sian W.
(Classical Guitar Student)

“Karla is very supportive and helpful. She keeps me on my toes and helps me get better and better. She picks up on everything, but critiques in a very loving and supportive way. She knows her stuff and will make you a better guitarist! I highly recommend”.

Jim S.
(Guitar Student)

All lessons have been great. She is very patient and gives great advice. A thing that impresses me most: She always remembers and takes notes on my progress so that we can can continue on from where we left off. She is very fun to work with”.

Mark G.
(Classical Guitar Student)

“I’ve been working with Karla for about 6 months and have been procrastinating this review for fear of it sounding exaggerated, like a sales pitch or something, but here goes. Brilliant instructor and extraordinary guitarist – with artistic and analytic skills at world class levels. Working with Karla feels like being immersed in a sea of extreme competence and patience. I feel consistently challenged at an optimal level for improvement. Everything is doable (with focused effort), but nothing is easy. Assignments are given and then progress is monitored to ensure that proper elements are learned. This means learning specific exercises and playing pieces for specific purposes, not spending too much time trying to polish them as you would for a performance. She has taught me to read music and to connect the music to the guitar. That connection did not happen when I was practicing tabulature only. I feel a lot of gratitude to be able to work with her – it’s been transformative”.

Tricia D.
(Fingerstyle Guitar Student)

Karla is the best guitar teacher I have worked with! She has a great knowledge of technique and style and really works with you to hone your skills. I worked with Karla for around 6 months and saw my guitar playing improve drastically. Karla also is great at teaching you how to practice on your own, giving suggestions of exercises and songs to work on each week, along with how long to spend on each exercise or how to increase speed, as well as how to break down difficult sections and practice them more efficiently. A cool aspect of technique we focused on was making sure your hands and wrists are relaxed while playing – not only is this a healthier way to play, I was surprised by how much it truly improves the quality of the sound! I would highly recommend taking lessons with Karla!
